Stingrays Put Out The Flames
East Providence, RI: The Rhode Island Stingrays soccer team put
themselves back into Open Cup qualification with a 5-1 victory over
the Westchester Flames on Saturday evening at Pierce Memorial Stadium.
Zico Antunes began the attack scoring the first goal at the eleventh
minute on a penalty kick after being taken down in the box. Westchester
answered with a goal, but the Stingrays' Chris Napolitano scored
the game winner with a through ball from Antunes. The Stingrays
went up 3-1 by halftime with Val Teixeira splitting the Flames'
defense and tucking the ball away into the lower right corner of
the goal. In the second half, it was all Stingrays as Napolitano
and newcomer, Geoff Cameron added two more insurance goals. The
Stingrays next home game will be June 4 against the Ottawa Fury
at Pierce Memorial Stadium. For tickets or camp information, log
