He was an East Providence High School
All-State, All-New England, and First Team NSCAA McDonald's
All-American. He was named as the Providence Journal's
Co-Athlete Of The Year In 1975. While playing at the
University of Rhode Island, he was a two time All New
England forward and still holds the record at URI for
the most goals scored in a half (3). Mario will once
again coach the Mens Rhode Island Stingrays for the
2008 season.

Joe
Avila - Assistant Coach
Joe Avila has been actively involved with soccer since
1975 and has coached at
all levels in the
Rhode Island area. |

He is currently the Coaching Director
of Barrington Youth Soccer and is the head coach at
Barrington High School. While at Barrington High School,
he has an overall record of 145-21-20. Joe has been
a head coach as well as a coaching director for the
Region 1 US Olympic Development Program. In 1995 he
was inducted into the New England Soccer Hall of Fame.

Alonso Villansenor
#11
Alonso is in his third year with the Rhode Island
Stingrays. He recently graduated from CCRI with a 3.80
GPA. He is a former All State player of Rhode Island's
Interscholastic League and a first team All-American
while at CCRI.

Alonso plays midfield for the Stingrays,
and works as a camp instructor at all the Stingray summer
soccer camps. He is fluent in Spanish and enjoys mixing
music as a past time.

Liz Balasco
Liz Balasco is in her tenth year of soccer coaching. She
is currently the Head Coach of the girls program at La
Salle Academy in Providence, Rhode Island. Liz was appointed
to the Head Coach position in September of 2001 after
serving as an assistant for four years. La Salle Academy
has won the state championships for the past five seasons.
The team was ranked #19 in the NSCAA final national rankings
during the 2003 season, #20 during the season of 2004
and #2 in 2005. |

LaSalle's record under the direction
of Liz is 110-5-6. As a coach, Liz is enthusiastic and
shows leadership and sportsmanship while representing
La Salle Academy. She has been working with the Rhode
Island Stingrays since 1997 and has a great amount of
experience in the physical, mental and tactical aspects
of the game. Liz is a personal trainer and has worked
with the off-season strength and conditioning training
of the Stingrays players.
